Festival W:ORTE

Festival W:ORTE

Saturday 13 Jun

City of Bressanone (Bressanone)

18:30 - 19:30

The Angolan-Portuguese author Yara Nakahanda Monteiro describes herself as a great-great-granddaughter of slavery, a great-granddaughter of racial mixing, a granddaughter of independence, and a daughter of the diaspora. She only began writing relatively late; first, she had to discover her Blackness in Brazil, and then, in the reality of present-day Angola, she had to rediscover the stories and languages of her grandmother.

In Bressanone, she will read some excerpts from her poetry and prose together with her translators, Nicola Biasio for Italian and Michael Kegler for German, and discuss issues related to the diversity of linguistic identities and cultural appropriation from a postcolonial perspective.

The multilingual evening is part of the international poetry festival W:ORTE's program and takes place within the ZeLTlectio translation course. We thank Donatella Trevisan for the challenge of moderating the dialogue between Portuguese, English, German, and Italian languages and across themes ranging from postcolonialism to ecofeminism, supported by expert interpreter Lorena Pircher.
