Castel Roncolo Schloß Runkelstein as a fortress of love... The frescoes of Castel Roncolo which tell us of tournaments, balls, hunts and romantic fortunes, are among the most famous examples of medieval painting. In the painted scenes that today appear simple to us conceal secret messages that were clearly decipherable to contemporary viewers.
The symbolism of courtly love, the allegorical play between man and woman, the meanings attributed to colours, plants and animals tell us about the almost forgotten relationship that the Middle Ages had with love, eros and sex.
You can get to Castel Roncolo using public transport from the central piazza Walther Platz: line 12 during the week; if you want to get here on foot or by bike, take the beautiful promenade along the river Talvera.
By car, take the road which goes to Sarntal Valley (SS 508) and turn right before the first tunnel. At the bottom of the castle you will find a free and unattended parking.
