A cycling race passing through Val di Fassa, where thousands of cyclists pedal to conquer the famous Dolomite passes of Passo di Costalunga (Karerpass), Pampeago, San Pellegrino, and Valles one after another.
Effort, rhythm, and wonder. On a bike, you gain altitude metre by metre until the view opens up over the Dolomites. It is an emotion every cyclist knows well: the challenge against yourself and the road. On Sunday 31 May, the 18th edition of the Marcialonga Cycling Craft begins, featuring around 1,500 athletes from fifteen countries. There are two routes to choose from, even during the race: the granfondo (135 km with 3,900 m of elevation gain) and the mediofondo (80 km with 2,488 m of elevation gain). Whatever you choose, the challenge is certain.
The route crosses the well-known valleys of the winter Marcialonga: Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa. It also passes through South Tyrol and the province of Belluno in Veneto. Predazzo is the hub of the event, hosting the start, finish, and Expo Village. At 08:00, cyclists will leave Piazza SS. Filippo e Giacomo to face some of the most demanding and scenic climbs in the Dolomites. The famous passes include Passo di Costalunga (maximum gradient 9.9%), Pampeago (14.5%), San Pellegrino (14%), and Valles (16%). The participants include talented cross-country skiers and runners who have already taken part in the Marcialonga and Marcialonga Running events.
The Marcialonga Cycling Craft weekend is not just for top athletes. Saturday 30 May is the turn of young riders with the Minicycling event. This is an obstacle course through the streets of Predazzo designed to give the next generation of cyclists a fun experience.
Following the legendary cross-country ski race in January, the Cycling Craft is the second major Marcialonga event of the year. It is a highly anticipated date on the calendar and is part of several circuits, including the Alè Challenge, Nalini Road Series, and Cycling Italia. The event brings competitive cycling back to the famous roads of the Dolomites.
