In one of Europe’s toughest road rides, about 1,000 cyclists annually traverse 600 kilometers and many Alpine passes for a total elevation gain of roughly 15,000 meters.
Now in its 20th year, the Tour Transalp has become an insanely popular endeavour that, in 2024, starts in Lienz in East Tirol. This outstandingly demanding stage race travels in seven days from Lienz along Sillian and across the rugged South Tyrol Dolomites to San Martino, Lavarone and Caldaro to Riva del Garda, located on to the shores of Lake Garda. About 1,000 riders come from all over the world to compete in the 600K ride, which spans numerous major mountain passes and is designed to maximize altitude, steepness, remoteness and (apparently) hurtiness.
