MICRODANZE & IL COMBATTIMENTO DI TANCREDI E CLORINDA

Bolzano Danza returns from 16 to 31 July 2026 for its 42nd edition, one of Europe's most celebrated contemporary dance festivals. For sixteen days, the city becomes an open-air stage, with performances and participatory events brought to life by world-class artists.

The 42nd edition opens at Castel Mareccio, an imposing medieval fortress dating back to the late 13th century, with two site-specific projects by CCN/Aterballetto.

The evening begins with MicroDanze, a modular format that reimagines the relationship between audience and performance. Visitors move through three short works in sequence, as if touring an exhibition, in close proximity to the dancers and without the distance of a conventional stage.

The three choreographies are by Antonella Bertoni, Francesca Lattuada and Diego Tortelli:

Terra Piccola (choreography: Antonella Bertoni)
A compressed dance work centred on the physicality of the performer – a body shaped by the earth, trembling, asking, fleeing and flying.

Eppur si muove (choreography: Francesca Lattuada)
A solemn and sensual solo: a dancer moves atop a barrel-pedestal to the notes of Beethoven's Allegretto, with the gravity of a prayer.

Soft P. (choreography: Diego Tortelli – world premiere)
A work for two bodies and a close gaze. The audience watches from nearby, entering an almost tactile relationship with the performers, where sensuality becomes a means of making unusual spaces inhabitable.

The evening continues in the castle courtyard with Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, a work that brings together contemporary dance and live Baroque music. Two dancers share the stage with countertenor Nicolò Balducci, harpsichordist Francesco Luigi Trivisano, and Haydn Orchestra soloists Stefano Ferrario (violin) and Luca Pasqual (cello). Inspired by Claudio Monteverdi's early 17th-century madrigal of the same name, the production is directed by Fabio Cherstich and choreographed by Philippe Kratz: two warriors caught in a story already written, locked in an endless cycle of love and death.
