DIPTYCH

Belgian theatre-dance company Peeping Tom has been one of the most acclaimed ensembles on the international scene for years. Diptych is a reworking of two short pieces created in 2016 for Nederlands Dans Theater 1, later adapted by directors Gabriela Carrizo (The Missing Door) and Franck Chartier (The Lost Room) for the company's own dancers.

The two parts of the diptych share an aesthetic reminiscent of a film set. The Missing Door is set in a room and a corridor full of doors that won't open, while The Lost Room takes place in a ship's cabin, focusing on the inner world of its characters. The scene changes between the two pieces happen in full view of the audience and become an integral part of the performance, like live editing.

Diptych is a visionary noir tale populated by restless characters moving between frenzy and dream through a cinematic set. Between shifting floors, doors and trapdoors, they retrace their memories or try to create new ones, until they are inexorably exposed to the distortions of the imagination. Dance, music and theatre merge in a compelling show that has become a genuine cult work in just a few years, seen by over 300,000 people worldwide.

Peeping Tom is a Belgian theatre-dance company founded by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier in Brussels in 2000. It brings together 16 nationalities and an ensemble of artists aged between 21 and 83. Among its awards are the Laurence Olivier Award in the United Kingdom for 32 rue Vandenbranden (2009) and the Patrons Circle Award at the Melbourne International Arts Festival. The company's creative process always begins with a hyperrealistic setting that gradually opens up and begins to challenge the logic of time, space and mood, drawing the audience into subconscious worlds, nightmares, fears and desires.

Gabriela Carrizo (born 1970 in Córdoba, Argentina) began dancing at the age of ten. She moved to Europe at nineteen and worked with Caroline Marcadé, Les Ballets C de la B, Koen Augustijnen and Needcompany. Franck Chartier (born 1967 in Roanne, France) began dancing at eleven and studied classical ballet at Rosella Hightower in Cannes. He was a member of Maurice Béjart's Ballet du 20ème Siècle and worked with Angelin Preljocaj, Rosas and Needcompany before co-founding Peeping Tom.
