Concert: Tennenlohe & Euterpe

Saturday 06 Jun

Bolzano City Centre (Bolzano)

20:30 - 22:00

Zupforchester Tennenlohe & Mandolinenorchester Euterpe

As part of the twin-city partnership between Bolzano and Erlangen, the Palazzo Mercantile hosts a joint concert by two plucked-string orchestras: the Zupforchester Tennenlohe from Erlangen and Bolzano's Euterpe Mandolin Orchestra.

The Zupforchester Tennenlohe was founded in 1981 by Bernhard Scheidel, growing out of a guitar quartet and a parent-child music group. His daughter Julia took over in 1985, and since 1991 the ensemble has been directed by Winfried Hübner. The orchestra has a long tradition of performing alongside other ensembles – from European orchestras to klezmer bands and choirs – with a repertoire ranging from Baroque music to ABBA and U2.

The Euterpe Mandolin Orchestra was founded in 1947 by Giovanni Ferrari and is the only plucked-string orchestra in the entire European Region of Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino. After more than 700 concerts, the ensemble today counts around 15 mandolin and guitar players and has been directed by Ugo Orrigo since 2005. Since 2004, the association also runs a mandolin and guitar school aimed at expanding the orchestra's membership over time.

The programme features works by Konrad Wölki, Katsumi Nagaoka, Fabrizio De André, Valentin Rathgeber, Michael Marx, Harry Warren, Giacomo Sartori, Yasuo Kuwahara, Raffaele Calace and Henry Mancini.
