The Hegdal Quartet brings a rare aesthetic coherence to the stage. Since 2009, the Norwegian quartet led by saxophonist Eirik Hegdal has developed a sonic language where the structural rigour of Olivier Messiaen meets the free energy of Ornette Coleman. The result is a near-telepathic interplay that treats musical genres as mere suggestions. Five albums and a Spellemann Award — Norway's most prestigious music prize — mark the path of a group whose melodic sensibility reaches well beyond the Nordic borders.
