Monologue of an aging double bassist by Patrick Süskind at the Lengmoos Commandery at 8.30 p.m.
Entrance € 15, RittenCard € 12, student € 5.
A 90-minute concert reading on the occasion of the 75th birthday of a seasoned orchestral double bassist: Christian Sutter, known as “The Poet of the Double Bass” – for 35 years solo double bassist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and, since its founding in 1999, member of Sir András Schiff’s “Cappella Andrea Barca” – is well acquainted with the highs and lows of orchestral life.
He offers insight into his deeply profound musical soul and into the depths of the orchestral pit. He struggles with his ambivalent relationship to the least soloistic and most unwieldy string instrument, which is always in the way, which cannot be carried but must be dragged. Nevertheless, after all these years, he remains firmly convinced that he plays the most important orchestral instrument of all: the double bass! It doesn’t get more authentic than this.
Christian Sutter – double bass, reading in german.
